The “fake nurse” from Bobbi Kristina’s hospice has a sordid past

The “fake nurse” who once worked at the hospice where Bobbi Kristina Brown died has a criminal history and had used false credentials to land prior nursing jobs, my AJC colleagues Craig Schneider and Steve Visser report.

This photo provided by the Wake County (N.C.) Jail shows Taiwo Sobamowo. Police say Sobamowo, in charge of Bobbi Kristina Brown's care at the hospice where she died, was impersonating a nurse and faces charges that include identity fraud and nursing without a license. A Duluth police report obtained Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, by The Associated Press states that detectives have documents showing Sobamowo cared for Brown at Peachtree Christian Hospice outside Atlanta. Taiwo Sobamowo, 32, was arrested by North Carolina authorities acting on warrants from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. She also faces charges in Duluth, where the hospice Bobbi Kristina was brought to in June and where she died in July.

Sobamowo “obtained, through fraudulent, means credentials on someone else and then used them herself,” Duluth Police Dept. Major Don Woodruff said. “Our investigation showed no evidence she is a licensed nurse.”

As it turns out there’s a lot more to the story. For all the details, click here.

Homestead Hospice and Palliative Care provides contract nurses for Peachtree Christian Hospice. In a statement released via The Associated Press, Homestead Hospice CEO Mallie Sharafat “said the company performed a background check and reviewed references from other health care agencies in the area.”

“We had no reason to believe that she was anything other than a good nurse with proper credentials,” the statement read. “As soon as the credentialing discrepancy was discovered by one of our employees, we immediately took action and notified the appropriate authorities.”
